Scientific name: Fuligo septica

Common Name: Dog vomit slime mould

Distribution: Common in backyards on decaying wood, woodchips. Found in all continents except Antarctica.

Fruiting period: In high humidity is in plasmodial stage (see yellow form on left), changes to crusting spore stage in dryer conditions.

General Information: Is classified within the kingdom of Myxomycota, division protocista. This organism shares features of fungi and protozoans and can move at speeds of up to 2.5mm per hour in plasmodial stage feeding on bacteria, spores and organic debris.
